The next Bailando is just under two weeks away! It's our fifth party and the first 'official' party of the summer! I hope you have had a great time so far, I certainly have enjoyed hosting.
This month we'll have our special friends from The Rueda Project (Montreal) visiting again, and on Sunday, July 12th, Issam Coluna and Eduardo Pinetti will host a special post-bailando Cuban workshop of casino and rueda de casino that will be followed by a Cuban social.
What is Casino?
What is Casino? Casino is the proper name for what is often mislabelled Cuban salsa. It is a partnered dance that evolved from Cuban son, but modern casino also incorporates movements from afro-cuban dances of rumba and yoruba; videos to come shortly.
Cuban casino is distinct to NY/LA salsa; across styles there are movements that are similar, but there are also important differences. For example, in casino, the woman often returns to the right hand side of the men, and partners are often moving in a circular fashion.
In the workshop you will learn about essential moves of casino, and we will move onto a ‘rueda’ (i.e. create a circle formation of partners), where all partners execute the same movements simultaneously as instructed by the ‘caller’.
Sunday, July 12th; Cuban Workshop and Social (@Maxwells, 340 Elgin)

Lastly, August with be Bailando's 6th month anniversary! Yikes, where does time go!?! To celebrate, on August 8th we will have a six hour party (including workshop and social).
