As a side project before I finished my internship, I wanted to photograph the students at the Family Support Centre. The goal was for the moms to have photos of their children, for Pop Wuj to use the photos to send to donors (since all of the scholarship program money is targeted and matches donors to students), and also for my own memories.
Above: I asked Jonathan to tell us how old he is.
Portraits have never been my strong suit, particularly posed ones, nonetheless of 39 children! Initially very excited about the idea, I soon began to worry about the light, the background I would use, whether it would rain (we were nearly the end of rainy season, but there was no guarantee), and if the kids would cooperate.
Fortunately, my housemate Paul Chee, also a photo enthusiast, offered to help me. If it weren’t for Paul running around behind me, making the children laugh (with the exception of Oscar in this photo), likely no one would have been smiling in these photos. Thanks Paul!!
In the end, I think the things worked out fairly well...
